Executive Commitee
Below is a list with brief biographies of the Chapter's Executive Committee.

Associate Professor, Andreas Beling
Andreas Beling received the Dipl.-Phys. degree (M.S.) in physics from the University of Bonn, Germany, in 2000 and the Dr.-Ing. degree (Ph.D.) in electrical engineering from Technical University Berlin, Germany, in 2006. He was a staff scientist in the photonics division at the Heinrich-Hertz-Institut in Berlin in 2001-2006, a Research Associate in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Virginia in 2006-2008, and has two years of industry experience as a project manager working on optoelectronic receivers for high-speed fiber optic communication systems. He became Assistant Professor in the ECE Department at UVa in 2013, and Associate Professor in 2018.
Faculty Advisor

Bassem Tossoun
Bassem Tossoun received his B.S. degree in Computer Engineering and M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 2014. His master’s thesis research was a collaboration with Professor John Bowers at UC Santa Barbara involving the improved peak power of a hybrid silicon mode-locked laser using impedance matching. Afterwards, he worked with Coriant Advanced Technology Group as a Senior Photonics Engineer working on silicon photonic integrated circuit design and testing. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at the University of Virginia with his research interests including silicon photonics and the design, fabrication, and characterization of optoelectronic devices.
President

Jesse Morgan
Jesse Morgan from Richmond, Virginia, received his B.S. degree in electrical engineering from UVA in 2016 and is now pursuing a Ph.D degree in electrical engineering. In addition to the photonics society, he is also a member of the IEEE-HKN Engineering Honor Society and student member of the Optical Society of America. His research interests include silicon-photonic integration, RF and microwave photonics, and high-speed photodiodes. In his spare time he enjoys playing for the local men's rugby team and getting mad gains in the gym.
Vice President

Andrew Jones
Andrew H. Jones received his B.S. in electrical engineering from Grove City College. He worked as a navy contractor for 2 years in Pittsburgh, PA before returning to his home state to pursue a Ph.D. in electrical engineering at the University of Virginia. His interests lie in photonic devices, specifically the design and fabrication of avalanche photodiodes.
